This card in a creative context:

“If you’re looking at the illustration of the Eight of Swords and thinking “no thank you, next please,” I get it. The initial impact of the illustration—a figure bound, blindfolded, caged in by swords—is far from encouraging.

But, as usual, the tarot has a few tricks up its sleeve.

What you see at first glance is pretty dire, but notice that the figure is not fully closed in, and their feet are not bound. While the blindfold will definitely make it more difficult, nothing’s actually stopping the central character in the card from walking out of the incomplete cage of swords. They could even back into the swords surrounding them and use the blade to cut away the bindings on their arms.

The overarching message of the card: You’re not as trapped as you think you are.”
